Performances

Vikram dons various getup including women’s. He is good as lanky CBI officer but his getups are also good but they lack fizz. It is nice to hear Vikram’s own voice in Telugu. Shriya has done most glamorous role in her career. She has indulged in skin show heavily and also done a lip-lip kiss scene. But the romantic scenes between Vikram and Shriya irritate the audiences after sometime as they spoil the main story. Brahamanamdam’s comedy (in some theatres it was chopped off) is also irritating. Superstar Krishna in the role of a senior CBI officer is good although he has not much to do. Prabhu as investigating officer is okay, it is just an extension of Prakash Raj’s character in Tagore. Mumait Khan appears in an item song. Ashish Vidyardhi is okay. Mukesh Tiwari as richest person in AP does good job.

Devi Sri Prasad’s music is the core strength of the film. Excuse Me Mallanna and Mambo songs are the best from the lot. Technically the film is chic with slick production values. Cinematographer Ekambaram makes the film visually stunning but the color grading looks hotchpotch. The biggest villain in the film is editing part. Run time of the movie is heavy (with 3 hours 10 minutes) and ridiculous-editing effects have put strain on eyes. Producer Kalaipuli Thanu has pumped lot of money and the expenses are visible on the screen but looks like director has taken him for a ride.

Performances:

Gopichand has tried hard to make the movie watchable with comedy but his characterization in the movie is not interesting. He is just okay. Trisha has done glam role comparatively her earlier movies in Telugu and there is lot of lewd dialogues involving her. Satyaraj as noble rayalaseema landlord has brought dignity to the character. The scene-stealer, of course, is Ali with his perfect comic timing. Also Venumadhav provides some good laughs. Kota Srinivas Rao is repeating the same histrionics that he has been doing for a long time. Rest of the cast is okay.

Music by Taman is its biggest drawback. Not a single song is hummable. His Background score is also substandard. Cinematography by Vetri is neat. Unlike in Gopichand’s films, the film has not much action stunts. Some of the dialouges by newcomer Anil are good.

Actress Asin Thottumkal, who's lately been working round-the-clock, has been admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital here following an acute sinus condition.

The "Ghajini" fame actress was admitted on Monday morning. She was taken to Kokilaben hospital because it's close to her home in Andheri.

Though the actress herself was unavailable for comment, her father, who was with her in the hospital, said: "Yes she's in hospital. Nothing to worry about. All this is part of the process of my daughter's growing up."

Asin is expected to be out after treatment in a couple of days. But the news of her hospitalisation on Eid was being whispered behind closed doors. Some said she was admitted after suffering from acute exhaustion.

"Asin was admitted to the Dhirubhai hospital... not for exhaustion but an acute sinus condition. She had been neglecting the condition for quite some time now. But now the sinus situation had to be attended to. But she was in great spirits, her usual chirpy and friendly self singing even as her treatment was being done," said a source close to Asin.

Her condition got aggravated because of the night shooting for "London Dreams".

"She had no choice but to get into the hospital to have the condition treated. She waited until Eid when there was break from work," said the source.

His suspension dispute with Mohun Bagan is yet to be resolved, but India captain Bhaichung Bhutia on Wednesday donned the East Bengal jersey and practised at their club tent for the first time this season.

Bhutia, who has a year's contract left with Mohun Bagan, went through the drill for close to one and half hours on Wednesday.

The national captain, who recently guided India to the Nehru Cup triumph, was seen giving pep-talk to his teammates including captain Syed Rahim Nabi, Mehrajuddin Wadoo, Harmanjot Singh Khabra among others.

East Bengal football secretary Santosh Bhattacharya said Bhutia had taken permission to practice with the club from the AIFF-appointed abritrator who is dealing with the Bhutia-Bagan impasse.

"He has sought permission from the arbitrator (former solicitor general Amarendra Sharan). He (Sharan) has clearly said Bhutia is 'free' to practice for any club to maintain fitness," said Bhattacharya.

Bhutia did not talk to media after the practice. Coach Subhas Bhowmick, who is under fire, after the team's debacle in IFA Shield and Durand Cup also did not comment.

The club is in talks with former JCT player Abel Hammond while Julius Akpele, who played for Mumbai FC last season, has confirmed that he would join the side.

"Julius is joining us and the side will get a boost with Yusif Yakubu's arrival on October 29," Bhattacharya said.

Having suffered four consecutive losses at the start of the season to crash out of Shield and Durand Cup, East Bengal have released their foreigner trio of Jan Berger, Sebastian Omar Monesterolo and Edmilson Marques.

The Bagan-Bhutia deadlock has been dragging since June when the ace Indian striker was slapped with a six months suspension without pay on disciplinary grounds.

After his row with Mohun Bagan, Bhutia did not waste time to switch allegiance to his former club East Bengal and the national captain attended the club's practice earlier occasions but never practised with red-and-gold teammates.

The dispute between Bhutia and Mohun Bagan is now pending before the arbitrator, Sharan, after Indian Football Association (West Bengal football body) and All India Football Association (AIFF) failed to resolve it.

Don't expect extraordinary result in World Cup: Brasa

Jose Brasa photos

Jose Brasa photos

With little over five months left for next year's FIH hockey World Cup, India chief coach Jose Brasa said it would be unrealistic to

expect anything extraordinary from the eight-time Olympic champions in the mega event to be held here from February 28 to March 13.

Although the Spaniard is optimistic about the hosts' good showing in next year's three major tournaments -- the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, Brasa said his goal is to come out victorious in at least two out of the three events.

"We will try to win all three or atleast two tournaments. But the World Cup is too close and there is hardly any time left to assure you something extraordinary," Brasa said.

"We are doing everything that is in our hand. We are utilising every single minute of training. The swine flu has hampered our camp in Pune for two weeks but now we are training well in all the aspects," he said.

Incidentally, it was Brasa who roped in Jesus Garcia Pallares as the physical trainer of Indian team but barely three months after his appointment, Pallares quit the job citing lack of professionalism in the working of the Sports Authority of India.

An annoyed Brasa, however, termed his decision as a wrong one and said by doing so Pallares broke his own promise.

"He took the wrong decision. Nobody take such a severe decision without notice. He broke the 30-day notice clause of his contract. He left me here alone without the support of any physical trainer and broke the word given to me," Brasa said.

Interestingly, Brasa himself is unhappy with the slow functioning of the SAI, but said he is trying hard to adapt to the system and hoped that his association with India would be longstanding.

"Things are very slow in India in general but adapting to them will be beneficial to us rather than just getting desperate," the veteran coach said.

"The equipments are coming. The Sports Minister, MS Gill has promised me face to face that all the equipments will be here in our hands when we will comeback from Canada in the beginning of November," he added.

The Indian team, which is presently undergoing a camp in Pune, will be flying to Canada next month for seven Tests starting October 9.

After India's poor show in the four-nation European tour which was Brasa's first assignment as coach of the national side, rumours were rife about the Spaniard thinking about quitting. However, he rejected the speculations, saying he is enjoying every bit of his association with the national team.

"I am enjoying my vicinity, proximity and good relations with Indian coaches and players. They are outstanding human beings and I wish that my stay here will be a long one," he said.

Depp may quit Pirates after Disney ousts studio chief

Johnny Depp may walk away from a fourth installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean" after Disney ousted the veteran studio chief who first backed his vision for the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, Los Angeles Times reported.

Studio chief Dick Cook left the company on Friday following a string of disappointing box office results and the studio's failure to consistently create popular films for the crucial teenage audience. Disney recently paid $4 billion to buy Marvel Entertainment and gain control of its stable of superheroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man and the X-Men.

Depp said he was "shocked and very sad" about the ouster of Cook, who started at Disney 38 years ago as a tour bus operator.

He told the Los Angeles Times that he only agreed to participate in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" because of Cook. The three movies in the series have already grossed some $2.8 billion worldwide and Disney announced a fourth installment last week to be called on "Stranger Tides".

But given Depp's iconic role in the series, his departure could spell a death knell for the money-spinning franchise.

"There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment," Depp said. "He's instantly trustworthy. And you generally don't meet people at the studios you trust. I consider Dick a friend in an insane system."

Travolta heads the 14-member witness list against the defendants - a former Bahamas senator and an ambulance driver who allegedly threatened to release a document related to the treatment of his son Jett. He is expected to appear in the court on Tuesday, reported people.com.

The two have pleaded not guilty and are out on bond.

This is Travolta's first visit to the Bahamas since his son died last January after suffering a seizure at the actor's vacation home on the island of Grand Bahama.

Hollywood Up movie deatila,wallpapers

Film: UP (animation adventure, comedy)
Cast: Voices of Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, John Ratzenberger, Delroy Lindo, Jordan Nagal
Director: Pete Docter

Every once in a while comes a movie as endearing as a grandmother's lap, as joyous as Tendulkar on song. UP is that kind of a movie: a magical joyride on 10,000 balloons that fills you with an unbearable lightness of being, and literally as well as figuratively, takes you to cloud nine. Crafted in the Disney-Pixar stable, Oscar-nominated director Pete Docter's flight of imagination evokes the feel of adventure, comedy and drama -- sometimes all at the same time. And if you occasionally get the impression of watching a buccaneering cartoon version of Indiana Jones, that's ok too.

The movie's first 15 minutes are its weakest. And on first impression, there is little appealing about UP's protagonist: Carl Fredricksen, a grumpy, pugnacious widower with a shock of white hair, big glasses and the squarest face you will ever see. Perhaps the oldest Hollywood hero of this millennium, Carl is still wedded to the memory of his wife (Ellie) who has left behind an album of their unfulfilled dream: a visit to Paradise Falls in South America. Part of the old man's crankiness comes from a feeling of helplessness. The land surrounding his house has been taken over by real estate builders. The noise and dust raised by the construction irritates Carl. That's why he turns snappy when egg-headed Russell, an earnest but bumbling kid, knocks at his door.

But Carl has a surprise for everyone. Using helium-filled balloons, he hauls his house above the ground and makes it soar. With Russell as accidental company, a rollicking voyage follows --- in the air and on the ground --- as a crazy explorer and his ferocious pack of dogs hunt for a rare multi-coloured bird that the duo has discovered. Two of an unkind, Carl and Russell make a great team. The change of tenor in their relationship -- from tolerance to bonding --- never feels fake.

It's been six years since Finding Nemo (2003) hit the screens but we still fondly and vividly remember the small fish, his father, even those sharks with mouths wider than India Gate. The characters of UP are equally unforgettable. Kevin, the flightless bird that looks like an ostrich but is feathered like a rainbow, is delightful. The scene where she flings Russell like a ball of wool in the air and rocks him like a baby makes for the movie's most affectionate moments. And Dug, the golden mutt who behaves like a lamb, is as cute as it gets.

Neatly scripted with first-rate production values --- in the climax, the swordfights and the fighter aircraft stunts are edge-of-the-seat stuff --- UP is like a wish granted for all. What more can you ask for in times of swine flu and fake austerity measures?

Upendra wins hearts with his brilliant acting. Arathi Chabria is okay. Rangayana Raghu is simply superb. Mukul Dev is impressive. Hamsalekha's music is good. Camerawork by R Janardhana Babu passes muster.

Blue Oranges movie stills,details

Film: Blue Oranges (Murder Mystery)
Cast: Rajit Kapoor, Aham Sharma, Rati Agnihotri, Harsh Chhaya, Pooja Kanwal, Richashree
Director: Rajesh Ganguly

He doesn't look like a cop or a detective. But ever since Rajit Kapoor acted as the bhadralok sleuth, Byomkesh Bakshi, in a Doordarshan television serial directed by Basu Chatterjee in the 1990s, he seems born to solve murder mysteries. In the pretentiously titled Blue Oranges, Kapoor again plays an investigator who probes the killing of an attractive woman. He must investigate a bunch of suspects -- ex-lover (Aham Sharma in a polished performance), tenant's son, a rich-brat who gave her a lift and the police commissioner's own brother (Harsh Chhaya) who had befriended her -- before arriving at the startling truth. It is Kapoor's presence -- intelligent and dignified - that makes the whodunit much more watchable than it actually is. The story may be original but the killer's identity reminds you of a famous Agatha Christie novel.

Blue Oranges is painstakingly crafted but too dour and too clinical for its own good. It is all mind and no heart. The progression of the case causes no corresponding rise in the viewer's heartbeat or curiosity level. Bereft of humour, pace and drama, the movie takes on a drab, monotonous tone. If it were a television serial, one would have been tempted to switch channels.

Dil Bole Hadippa movie details,stills

Film: Dil Bole Hadippa (Romantic Comedy)
Cast: Rani Mukherjee, Shahid Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Rakhi Sawant, Sherlyn Chopra
Director: Anurag Singh

Dil Bole Hadippa begins with Veera (Rani Mukherjee), the spunky Punjabi kudi in bright pink kurta and blue dupatta doing what Yuvraj Singh did to When you write - A for all-rounder, B for batsman, C for catch and D for dreams - you are cricket-crazy all right.

Veera badly wants to play in the Aman Cup, an annual cricket game between two teams from either side of the border. The Pakistanis have been winning nine years in a row and are understandably cocky. The Indians, especially the team's main patron Anupam Kher is morose. Not only because his wife lives away from him in London but also because his son Rohan (Shahid Kapoor) wants to play for an English county. Feigning a heart attack, dad calls son over. Rohan takes charge of the team that Veera wants to play for. Since she cannot play as a girl, Veera masquerades as a boy. What follows isn't hard to predict for anybody who has seen even one Hindi movie a month.

Masquerades have been a time-honoured method in Hindi films where heroines lived out their more rebellious selves. In Dil Bole Hadippa too, the device enables the heroine to enter forbidden terrain. Jisse murti bana ke poojti ho, usey insaan bana ke kuchalte ho, says the heroine to the guard who refuses to let her enter the cricket ground.

DBH's heart, especially in matters of gender, is certainly in the right place. But the movie never really manages to entice the viewer into the make-believe world it creates: a world filled with green fields, red tractors, multi-coloured trucks and hyper-energetic Punjabi village folk. Director Anurag Singh neither manages to create an appealing romantic social nor a sincere sporty movie.

The movie fails to build any sort of dramatic tension that Lagaan built in the climax. Perhaps Singh should have watched a few more T20 games. You don't chase 213 after reeling at 47 for 9 in 10 overs. There's a limit to willing suspension of disbelief. Worse, the unappetising songs interrupt the narrative's flow.

Anoushka complains of blackmail, Mumbai-based man arrested

Delhi Police is investigating a case of blackmailing of young sitarist and legendary musician Pandit Ravi Shanker's daughter, Anoushka and has arrested a Mumbai-based man who allegedly accessed her photographs stored in her laptop.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, has been arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police following investigations in Mumbai after Ravi Shankar approached police last month complaining about the harassment meted out to his daughter, a senior police official said.

Police had last week registered a case under Section 386 of Indian Penal Code which relates to extortion by putting in fear of death or hurt and provides for a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail.

The official said the musician, who lives in the US, has told police that Anoushka had given her laptop to a service centre in south Delhi in February.

"We think that the material in the laptop was copied by someone. We interrogated the staff at the Apple Services Centre. Later, we zeroed in on the Mumbai-based man and arrested him," he said.

The man allegedly sent a series of e-mails to 28-year-old Anoushka, demanding money for not making public the photographs. The alleged blackmailer even asked for USD one lakh in one e-mail.

Police did not state as to when the man was arrested.

Beyonce to perform in Malaysia despite dress code

Beyonce Knowles says she will perform in Malaysia in October, two years after canceling a show in this Muslim-majority country after protesters threatened to disrupt the concert because of her sexy image and clothing.

The R&B superstar's upcoming show is already drawing the ire of conservatives in this country, where female performers are required to cover up from the shoulders to knees with no cleavage showing.

Knowles said on her Web site that she will take the stage at a stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's biggest city, on Oct. 25. "Beyonce for the first time ever has decided to make Malaysia part of her 'I am.' World Tour," her Web site said.

Knowles canceled a planned concert two years ago following protest threats by Malaysia's opposition Islamic party. At the time her talent agency said the show was called off due to a scheduling conflict.

Instead she went to Indonesia, which has less stringent rules about how performers should dress and behave.

Sabki Yusof, youth vice head of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, said Sunday that they would send a protest note to the government over the concert. He said it was the government's "responsibility to protect the people of Malaysia" from what he described as immoral Western influences.

"We are not against entertainment as long as it is within the framework of our culture and our religion," Sabki said. "We are against Western sexy performances. We don't think our people need that."

He said besides the protest note, the party had no plans so far to disrupt the concert. Organizers for Beyonce's October show could not immediately be reached for comment.

Artists such as Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani have performed in Malaysia under similar protest threats by conservative Muslims, forcing the artists to don attire that revealed little skin.

In the most recent controversy, the government late last month at first barred, then reversed the order forbidding Muslims from attending a Black Eyed Peas concert because it was sponsored by a beer company. With the ban lifted Muslims can now watch the U.S. hip-hop stars at a theme park near Kuala Lumpur on Sept. 25.

In family and personal matters, Muslims, who make up two-thirds of Malaysia's 28 million people, are governed by Islamic law, which forbids the consumption of alcohol. The laws do not apply to non-Muslims.

India concede doubles tie against South Africa

India's fate in the Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against South Africa is still hanging in balance as the visitors conceded the doubles rubber owing to Mahesh Bhupathi's injury on Saturday.

India were trailing 3-6, 6-3, 0-4 when Bhupathi and his partner Rohan Bopanna opted out of the contest, which means that Sunday's reverse singles will decide which team will enter the World Group.

Friday's victories by Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna had put India in driver's seat and they were hoping to wrap up the tie today itself.

India still leads the tie 2-1 and need one more win out of two reverse singles, to be played at Ellis Park arena.

Somdev will lock horns with South Africa's number one player Rik de Voest and Bopanna will clash against Izak Van der Merwe in the match between the number two players.

India last played in the World Group in 1998 when they lost 1-4 to Italy.

The doubles rubber was heading for an exciting finish as India and South Africa were locked in an intense battle.

Both the teams gauged each other initially before applying any strategy and he first seven games of the match went with serve.

Coetzee's scintillating play at the net made a big difference. His lightening reflexes and agility was a treat to watch as the diminutive South African complimented well the big serving Moodie.

Coetzee set up the first break of the match when he fired a quick volley winner and followed it up by a down the line winner, earning two breakpoints for his team.

Bhupathi served big to save first but could not stop Moodie to convert the second.

Up by a break, Moodie served out the set without any fuss.

Bhupathi was at his best when he hit a return off Moodie over the head of Coetzee, almost like a lob, for a winner and then hit a zooming return winner to earn two breakpoints for India in the second game of the second set.

They could not convert any and then Bopanna survived a scare of break in the fifth game, saving a chance.

Thanks to Bhupathi's excellence, India earned two more chances in the seventh game and this time they did not falter and Bopanna drew parity by holding the next game.

Bopanna, who had been serving well, committed a costly volley error despite on top of the point and the resultant break handed South Africa 2-0 lead in the third set which became 4-0 when Bhupathi double faulted and retired.
