Transformers' director announces another sci-fi franchise

"Transformers" director Michael Bay has lined up his next sci-fi franchise.

Based on a collection of novels written by author James Frey, Bay's production company has picked up the rights to "I Am Number Four", the first in a series of six books about nine aliens who escape to earth before their planet is destroyed, reports imdb.com.

The movie, which has potential to turn into a multi-part series, follows one particular alien who takes the form of a high school student.

The third instalment in the "Transformers" trilogy is yet to come.

Beyonce Knowles to rent 5 mn pounds apartment in Singapore

Hollywood actress-singer Beyonce Knowles is set to rent an apartment in Singapore for five million pounds.

The "Crazy in Love" singer will be headlining the city's F1 Rocks concert next month and she and rapper husband Jay-Z wanted somewhere luxurious to stay, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The couple have been looking at plush penthouses in the city's Marina Bay area, and one pad which has impressed them has an incredible 360-degree view of the city and the sea.

"Beyonce and Jay-Z love Singapore and don't want to just stay at a hotel while they are there. Some of the apartments they've seen have been fantastic but their favourite is the one with the stunning view," said a source.

Beyonce will be joined at F1 Rocks by bands Black Eyed Peas and N.E.R.D.

The event - which will also feature performances from ZZ Top, Simple Minds, Chinese singer Jacky Cheung, Taiwanese hip-hop band Da Mouth and Taiwanese pop band Sodagreen - is to be the first of eight F1 Rocks concerts planned by Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone to tie-in with races across the season.

The event takes place Sep 24-26 at Fort Canning Park, while the Singapore Grand Prix is to be held Sep 27.

Learning lessons from Shah Rukh Khan episode, Bollywood star Salman Khan has cancelled his upcoming trip to New York to promote his latest movie "Wanted," besides participating in the auction of his personal paintings to raise funds for his charity.
Organisers and promoters associated with the event cited Shah Rukh Khan's episode at Newark Airport early this month, where he was questioned by immigration officials and taken for a second screening, as a major reason for Salman to cancel his New York trip scheduled in early September.
The event was scheduled for September 3 in New York. The promoters were also in talks with local organisers in cities like Chicago, Houston and Dallas for his other events.
"However, after the Shah Rukh Khan event, Salman informed us that he would not like to take the risk of coming to the US at this point," an informed source involved with the planning and organising the September 3 event said.
It is understood that Salman's decision was also propelled by what his aid alleged "the hard time" being given by the US Consulate in Mumbai in approving the visa of his close associates, including one of his family members, whom Salman wanted to bring along with on this promotional trip.
Besides Salman Khan, producer Boney Kapoor, former Bollywood star, Sridevi and Prabhu Deva were also scheduled to attend the New York meeting. Informed sources said following the Shah Rukh episode, which attracted much media publicity in both India and the US, there is a sense of reluctance among local promoters and organisers of Bollywood events to risk inviting star from Mumbai.
